Destination timeouts, Hermes plugin, and headless CLI - Hookdeck August 2026
August's releases include per-destination delivery timeouts, an Event Gateway plugin for Hermes Agent, updates to CLI and Outpost, as well as seven new verified sources.
Destination delivery timeouts
Delivery timeouts in Event Gateway are now configurable per destination under Advanced Configuration, up to 15 minutes. Attempts over 60 seconds route to isolated queues sized for longer-running deliveries, so slow destinations don't hold up everything else.
Extended timeouts are ideal for AI tasks and heavy backend workloads, eliminating the need for polling or internal queueing, while giving your handlers the buffer to work around cold starts.

Timezone and first day of week are now dashboard preferences, defaulting to your browser settings, and timezone selection is available directly in date pickers.
Synchronized, zoomable metrics - related metric charts now keep their hover and selection states aligned. Drag across a chart to zoom every chart in the view to the same time range.
HTTP QUERY is now accepted as a source and destination in Event Gateway. QUERY is safe and idempotent like GET but carries a request body.
Event Gateway plugin for Hermes Agent
Hermes is Nous Research's self-hosted AI agent. It can now be triggered by webhooks, but its webhook adapter runs inside the same gateway process as Telegram, Discord, and the other messaging platforms. Restart that process and port 8644 stops answering, and most providers only send once. Bursts above 30 requests per minute per route are dropped, deduplication only covers GitHub's delivery header, and native signature verification supports four schemes.
We released hermes-hookdeck, an official plugin that puts Event Gateway in front of your agent. Webhooks are verified at the edge, persisted before the producer gets a 200, held while Hermes is down, and deduplicated across restarts. The plugin also adds operator commands and agent tools for triaging failed runs.

CLI v3.0 beta: Outpost MCP & Gateway write mode
The v3 beta adds an Outpost MCP server and a write mode for the Event Gateway MCP server.
Gateway write mode adds 28 write actions across connections, sources, destinations, transformations, events, requests, and issues. It's off by default and requires --allow-write or HOOKDECK_MCP_ALLOW_WRITE=true.
Outpost MCP server gives agents access to tenants, destinations, events, attempts, topics, config, metrics, and publishing via hookdeck outpost mcp.
Note, there's breaking change in this release: every Gateway tool is renamed from hookdeck_* to gateway_*, and the events and requests tools are split into a list tool and a by-id tool (gateway_events and gateway_event).
Install the beta with npm install -g @hookdeck/cli@v3.0.0-beta.1 but read the v3.0.0-beta.1 release notes before upgrading. Please flag any issues in the CLI repository.
CLI v2.4.0 & v2.5.0
v2.5.0 makes hookdeck listen safe to run headlessly. It now reads HOOKDECK_API_KEY directly, so you no longer need a separate hookdeck ci step. It also detects when there is no terminal and switches to compact output.
v2.4.0 documents --cli-key on hookdeck listen and persists it. Copy a command from the Hookdeck Console, run it on a machine with no stored credential, and the key is validated and saved for future runs. If you're already logged in, nothing is written and the key applies to that run only.

Outpost v1.2.0
The retry monitor used to poll Redis on a fixed interval regardless of when the next retry was due. It now sleeps until the next retry comes due, cutting idle Redis traffic from roughly 129.6M to 86.4K commands per month per monitor.
Thanks to @ambroziepaval for custom dead-letter queue names on SQS, RabbitMQ, and GCP Pub/Sub, @zahradm for the new outpost config list command, and @8BitJonny for moving the Docker base image to Debian 13.
Outpost v1.2.0 includes a PostgreSQL migration and a behavior change to RETRY_POLL_BACKOFF_MS, so run outpost migrate apply --yes and read the v1.2 upgrade guide before upgrading.

Six New Verified Sources
Event Gateway's source catalog grew by six this month: Google Pub/Sub, Cronofy, MailerSend, Azure Event Grid, Community.com, and Aircall.
