In this September 2025 review, we cover our new event cancellation feature, giving you improved control over event processing, Prometheus metrics export for comprehensive observability integration, Outpost for outbound webhooks Railway deployment for simplified self-hosting, and our upcoming community engagement at four events in Barcelona 🇪🇸, Stockholm 🇸🇪, Montreal 🇨🇦, and Leeds 🇬🇧.

Cancel Events Feature

Cancellations

One of the most requested features from our community has finally arrived: the ability to cancel all future delivery attempts for an event in the Hookdeck Event Gateway. This capability gives you control over your event processing pipeline, allowing you to stop event delivery when needed. In complex event-driven architectures, there are scenarios where you need to halt event processing mid-flight. Whether it's due to downstream service issues, data validation failures, or changing business requirements, having granular control over event lifecycle prevents unnecessary processing and potential side effects.

The cancellation feature integrates into your existing Event Gateway workflow:

  • Manual Cancellation: Cancel individual events directly from the dashboard with a single click
  • Bulk Operations: Select and cancel multiple events simultaneously for efficient management
  • API Integration: Programmatically cancel events using our REST API for automated workflows
  • Status Tracking: Clear visibility into cancelled event status with detailed audit logging

The cancellation feature maintains complete audit trails, ensuring you have full visibility into when, why, and by whom events were cancelled, supporting compliance and debugging workflows.

Prometheus Metrics Export

Prometheus Metrics

September also saw the launch of our Prometheus metrics export capability, an enhancement to Hookdeck's observability offerings. This feature enables integration with your existing monitoring and alerting infrastructure.

Our Prometheus export provides detailed metrics across your event infrastructure:

  • Event Processing: Track event volumes, success rates, processing latencies, and throughput
  • Connection Health: Monitor connection status, retry attempts, failure rates, and recovery patterns
  • System Performance: Access detailed latency metrics, resource utilization, and capacity planning data
  • Custom Metrics: Export application-specific metrics relevant to your particular use cases

Setting up Prometheus export is straightforward and developer-friendly:

  1. Enable metrics export in your Hookdeck workspace settings
  2. Configure your Prometheus instance to scrape the provided secure endpoint
  3. Import our pre-built Grafana dashboards for instant visualization
  4. Set up intelligent alerting rules based on your operational requirements

The Prometheus integration brings several operational advantages:

  • Unified Monitoring: Consolidate event metrics with your existing observability stack
  • Proactive Alerting: Set up intelligent alerts based on event performance patterns and thresholds
  • Historical Analysis: Leverage Prometheus's time-series capabilities for trend analysis and capacity planning
  • Team Collaboration: Share event performance insights across development, operations, and business teams

This enhancement improves your ability to maintain reliable event processing at scale while integrating naturally into modern DevOps workflows.

Outpost Railway Deployment

Outpost on Railway

Outpost, our self-hosted webhook and event destinations service, is now a verified deployment on Railway. The Outpost Railway starter template provides a one-click deployment option for teams looking to run Outpost on Railway's infrastructure.

Railway's platform-as-a-service approach makes it simple to deploy and scale Outpost instances without managing underlying infrastructure. The verified template includes pre-configured environment variables, health checks, and scaling settings optimized for webhook delivery workloads.

The Railway integration expands deployment options for teams who prefer Railway's developer experience and want to maintain control over their webhook infrastructure while leveraging a managed platform for operational concerns.

Upcoming Community Events: October 2025

Our team continues to actively engage with the developer community through speaking engagements and sponsorships at four major events throughout October, showcasing Hookdeck's capabilities and connecting with fellow developers and industry leaders across different continents.

HackBarna AI Summit 25 - Barcelona: October 11-12

We're proud to sponsor HackBarna's AI Summit 25 in Barcelona, joining an impressive lineup of sponsors including Anthropic, n8n, ElevenLabs, Hugging Face, and Lovable. This is our second year sponsoring the event that brings together hackers excited about AI development. We believe Hookdeck has a unique place in supporting asynchronous AI workflows and background tasks, so we're looking forward to seeing what the community builds.

Platform Summit - Stockholm, October 14-15

Phil Leggetter, our Head of DX, will be presenting "Beyond Webhooks: The Future of Scalable API Event Delivery" at the Platform Summit in Stockholm on October 14-15. His talk will challenge the status quo of webhooks and introduce Event Destinations—a next-generation approach to API platform event delivery that offers greater flexibility, resilience, and control at scale. This event brings together platform engineers and architects, providing an excellent opportunity to share insights and gather feedback on the future of event-driven systems.

MTL_code - Montreal, October 16

Alex Bouchard, CEO and Co-Founder of Hookdeck, will present "Webhooks at Scale: Best Practices, Lessons Learned" at MTL_code in Montreal. Drawing on Hookdeck's experience processing over 100 billion webhooks, Alex will highlight architecture patterns and event-driven application considerations. The event is hosted by our friends at botpress, featuring pizza, drinks, and networking with Montreal's developer community.

Partners North Meetup - UK, October 28

We're supporting the Partners North Meetup. This Shopify developers meetup features a comprehensive agenda, including a talk by David Warrington (Senior Demo Engineer at Shopify) on "Liquid Hacks, Tips & Tricks." The event offers a chance to connect with fellow Shopify professionals and discover the latest tools and technologies.
